Situation

Research shows specific, common traits and behaviors drive effectiveness and other traits derail it.  Moreover, the same clusters of personality traits that operate as drivers and derailers in today’s world were the same impact 50 years ago! Perhaps the only thing to not change in the world of work over the last half century.

Action

Understand how to identify which traits are performance drivers and which derail performance is critical to facilitating positive changes in organizations. Research shows that one’s self-image may be consistent with or divergent from how others experience you… and essential to understand that others work with you based on their perceptions of your behavior, not your self-image

360 assessments can provide reliable and valid feedback on how others view your behavior and compare that to an empirical model of effectiveness.

However many self and 360 assessments marketed do not have even minimal reliability and validity. So OD consultants it is imperative to select and Incorporate quality assessments into programs – based on science not anecdote.

Results / Learning Objectives

After this session you will:

·         See the pervasive impact of personality - across professions, gender & cultures

·         Understand it is common for one’s self-image to vary from others’ perceptions

·         Recognize which traits drive or derail leadership, teamwork and communications

·         Be able to identify a solid assessment and how feedback is used to improve individuals and teams in an ever-changing work world.

 

 

PRESENTER’S BIO

Brief bio

Days after finishing clinical training in 1983, Ron Warren moved to the Silicon Valley to build computer-based assessments. His first pc-based assessment was featured in Newsweek in an article called, "Shrink on a Disk." A year later he co-founded Acumen and built an assessment that InfoWorld called "the best expert system we’ve seen to date."

After years of work in the aviation industry, Ron began development of his LMAP 360 assessment tool in 1999 with its first release in 2003.  Ron and Ornaith Keane incorporated LMAP LLC in 2006.  At LMAP, Ron provides oversight on assessment metrics and content, accepts select coaching and consulting assignments. LMAP 360 is used at Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program; Yale Global Leaders & CEO College; Wharton and Cornell programs, TFA, UL, Temasek Holdings, and over 25 healthcare systems.  Ron took 2015 and 2016 off from client work to write his book, Personality at Work -The Drivers and Derailers of Leadership, that was published a few weeks ago on Feb. 24, 2017.

Ron has a range of OD assessment, coaching, and clinical training and experience.  His PhD is from The University of Chicago, specializing in Clinical Psychology.  Ron is a Guest Lecturer at Yale School of Management, Harvard Business School, and The Wharton School.

We’re excited to host renowned author and organizational change leader, Paul Gibbons as our first guest.  Paul comes from 30 plus years in business, as a banker, trader, consultant, entrepreneur, and part-time professor and has published several books, his latest and focus of our conversation was where he sought to update the change & leadership world with 21st century research from the Human Sciences in a book titled - The Science of Organizational Change (published May 2015).

Mark your calendars and plan to join us for a change management professional development and networking meeting on Thursday July 30 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.  We will focus on the need to integrate Change and Project management disciplines using the “World Café” process. 

The integration of Project and Change Management continues to be a hot-topic as organizations become increasingly aware of the positive impact change management has on the successful delivery of key initiatives.

The discussion of two critical disciplines requires a thoughtful, deliberate conversation within organizations as well as within the disciplines themselves.  The “World Café” process will provide us a way to discuss this hot-topic.  Our dual objectives will be for you to:

1) Experience the “World Café” process designed to connect people and provide thoughtful deliberation to share ideas and insights and gain a deeper understanding on a focused topic

2) Using that “World Café” process – participate in a discussion about how best to increase the partnership and collaboration between Project and Change Management disciplines to improve business outcomes.

John Spenker, who co-facilitated a similar session at the ACMP National Conference, will lead this session with the support of Eric Bohr, the East Bay Region Chair.

As always, there also will be time to network with the other change management professionals attending the meeting.

As a bonus, you will get to see the new offices of our generous hosts, Future State, in downtown Oakland located at 2101 Webster Street, Suite 520, Oakland, 94612.  The 19th Street BART is about 2 blocks from their offices making it easy for East Bay and San Francisco based members to attend.

A futurist at heart, she developed a strengths-based framework powered by real-time technology that provides individuals and organizations with a quantitative way of measuring the predictive nature of positive influence. These human development tools are based on Tiltology, a new theory of personality development that reframes human potential by breaking through the limitations of traditional Typology systems that can be limiting. Her research-based tools simplify and help us understand the motives beneath human behavior so we can move beyond self-limited thinking to new levels of complex reasoning. Pam is also author of a novel published in 2011 titled True Tilt, an uncommon quest, introducing conscious leadership through a personal journey of self-awareness through four dimensions including Wisdom, Humanity, Courage and Resilience.

Michael Stephenson, Sr. Organizational and People Effectiveness Leader brings his entertaining, informative insights on leadership alignment, employee engagement, culture and organizational behavior understanding.
